  • Mattioda, Enrico À propos de l'édition française de Partigia de Sergio Luzzatto

Sergio Luzzatto's Partigia. Una storia della Resistenza was first published in Italy in 2013. The aim of this microhistorical study was to reconstruct the events surrounding the execution, as a disciplinary measure, of two unruly partisans belonging to the same resistance group as Primo Levi. In 2016, the French edition of the work was published together with a lengthy afterword by Luzzatto aimed at responding to the criticism waged against his work. This article seeks to demonstrate Luzzatto's failure to consider the historical context surrounding the execution when identifying it as the source of deep-seated guilt in Levi. In fact, Luzzatto offers no evidence to support his claims; instead, he seeks to cover up this void by presenting himself as a key player in the search for the "truth" and thereby creating a special pact with the reader. In the end, the afterword to the French edition fails to fully address the criticism, and it adds very little to what is already known about Primo Levi's life and thinking.
