Renzo Laconi (1916-67), one among the leaders of the Italian Communist Party (Pci) and the main protagonists of the birth of the Italian Republic, was Member of the Constituent Assembly and Member of Parliament for four legislatures. Since a young age, and especially when he entered politics, he oversaw the preservation of his papers, subdivided into folders, files and the valuable series of "Notebooks". Today these pages constitute a stimulating field of research on the work of an intellectual who, destined to become a leading actor in the implementation of the Constitution and the rebirth of Sardinia, united his passion for historical research with the study of the Sardinian matter. In order to analyse Laconi's politics and his idea of intellectual group on the basis of Gramsci's lesson, this essay examines the pages of the "Notebooks" devoted to Carbonia between 1948 and 1953, when he opposed to the mining crisis a strong popular mobilization, aiming to protect the existence of a social reality resolutely characterized in terms of identity.
